MASONRY DESIGN/ StructuresMasonry is a part of the historical building fabric of virtually every location in the world. At Limaçon Design, our design practice has been influenced by the intangible heritage of many different building traditions, from fired brick eg. Catalan/Tile vaulting, to raw earth eg. Nubian techniques, to early limes and natural cements eg. Modernist shell structures. We take the general philosophy that local (vernacular) innovation has the most embedded technical intelligence and fitness for local place and ecology. However hundreds, even thousands, of years of "technology exchange" have given contemporary architects and structural engineers a broad palette of tools for thoughtful design — provided that they are empowered with the knowledge of master-builders.
